Kites
I see children as kites.
You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you're both breathless...they crash...
you add a longer tail... they hit the roof tops...
you pluck them out of the drain spout...
you patch and comfort, adjust and teach.
You watch them lifted in the wind, and assure
them that someday they'll fly.
Finally they are airborne, but they need more string
and you keep letting it out
and with each twist of the ball od twine there is a sadness
that goes with the joy because the kite becomes
more distant, and somehow you know that it
won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap
the lifetime that bound you together and soar... free and alone.
Only then do you know
that you did your job!

Quotes

Don't worry that Children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.
(Robert Fulghum)

If you want children to keep their feet on the ground,
put some responsibility on their shouldners.
(Abigail Van Buren)

If you want your children to improve, let them overhear the nice things you say about them to others.
(Haim Ginott)
One Hundred Years from now

It will not matter
what kind of car I drove,
What kind of house I lived in,
how much money was in my bank account
nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a better place because
I was important in the life of a child.
