February 6, 2008 Five athletes from Steele
High School signed with the college of their choice to play either football or soccer. The following athletes from Steele signed with the college of their choice on Feb. 6, in conjunction with National Signing Day. The include: Brittany Heiss, Pikeville College; Katelyn Fray, UTSA; Doug Hitchens, New Mexico Highlands University; Derek Curtis, Cisco Jr. College; and Travis McKinney, Tarleton State University. |
January 22, 2008 Simone Bailey, a math teacher at Clemens HS, was named the
2008 SCUCISD KENS-5 ExCEL Award Winner. She was presented the award by Clemens HS Principal Jeff Bryan, Superintendent Belinda Pustka, and KENS-5 Anchor Deborah Knapp. She received a golden apple award and a cash prize of $1,000. |

January 25, 2008 The Steele boy’s basketball team held their Annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game on Jan. 25 against the Clemens Buffaloes. Adam Harris and Tommy Penshorn (pictured above) are posing in front of the “Wall Against Cancer” they created as a fund raiser to benefit the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. They successfully raised $500 for cancer research that evening. |

December 20, 2007 SCUCISD held a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the replacement campus of Schertz Elementary School the
afternoon of Dec. 20. The new school site is located adjacent to the current campus at 701 Curtiss Ave. in Schertz. More than 100 community members, district employees, and students attended the event. |

November 15, 2007 The Board of Trustees honored the principals and staff from the district's
four TEA Recongized campuses, during their regular monthly meeting. Principals Ricki Muennink (Rose Garden Elementary), Becky Stark (Watts Elementary), Tina Trcka (Schertz Elementary), and Stacy Serna (Wiederstein Elementary) accepted the award for their campus. |
November 14, 2007 Shavon Walker (center) signed a letter of intent to play basketball with The University of Pan
American. She was joined by her parents, Roddray and Sharon Walker, for the special occassion. UT-Pan Am is an independent Division I university. |
November 15, 2007 The district held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Ray D. Corbett
Junior High Replacement Campus located near the intersection of FM 1518 and Lower Seguin Road. The school is set to open August 2009. |

November 1, 2007 The Dual Language students at Schertz Elementary celebrated
Dia de los Muertos with a display of their cultural artwork. They made different "artesanias" (crafts) related to this special time including calaveras (skulls), calacas (skeletons), memory boxes, and masks to honor loved ones (and pets) who have passed. |
November 9, 2007 Corbett Jr. High School Principal, Jay Muennink, puckers up to kiss a pig as part of a
fundraiser to help a student's family whose home was destroyed in a fire. The students raised more than $300 for the student's family. Vice Principal Leslie Thompson also kissed the pig due to a tie. |

October 5, 2007 The Clemens Buffaloes went head-to-head with the Steele Knights
for only the second time in the history of the school district. Steele defeated the Buffs 16-0 in front of a sold-out crowd at SCUCISD Stadium. |
October 5, 2007 The Clemens Belles joined the Steele Medallion Dancers for a
special half-time performance. The Clemens Stars and the Steele Knightlites also particiapted in this inagural performance. |
October 5, 2007 The 2007 Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony was held at the SCUCISD Stadium before the Clemens vs. Steele varsity football game. This year's inductees include: Allen Whitfield, Paula Randol-Smith, Marion Dolford, Russell Rehmann, James Davidson, May Rowell, and Rosemary Rappmund (her family accepted the award on her behalf). |
October 3, 2007 Ms. Alvis (pictured left), the German teacher at Clemens HS, brought a piece of the Berlin wall and picture book commemorating that time in history to share with her class on German Reunification Day. The students also earned extra credit by bringing food of German descent to class. Cara Saia (pictured left) brought German Christmas cookies to share with the class. |

Clemens High School hosted a Community Blood Drive in the school practice Gym. Clemens is the 2006-07 winner of the High School Challenge for the most donors. Their next Blood Drive is Nov. 7. |

district with $1,500 worth of school supplies, during a recent principal's meeting. Chester Boenig, the club's school supply committee chair, made the presentation to the principals, along with Club Member D.C. Morgan and Club President Keith Tomerlin. |

August 28, 2007 A group of nearly 40 SCUCISD employees were honored by the Board of Trustees for their efforts in the recent Hurricane Dean evacuation plan. The group was made up of mostly bus drivers, a handful of support staff from
transporation, and a few other district administrators. |
