Dance

Dancers aren’t made of their technique, but of their passion.

The Dance Departments in the SCUC school district encourage students to appreciate dance as an art form.  Initially, the dance curriculum focuses on basic dance techniques and skills in varying disciplines, including jazz, modern, ballet, and others.  In learning these techniques, students are challenged to obtain fundamentals of self-reliance, as well as cooperation and teamwork.  Students in these programs often succeed as positive role models and leaders in their community.

The SCUCISD Dance programs offer several options for participation:

-       Dance I and Dance II
These courses are each a full year and can be taken sequentially to satisfy a fine arts and/or a PE credit.  Emphasis is placed on proper dance techniques of varying disciplines.  The historical beginnings and the evolution of dance through time are also studied.

-       Pep Squad
Pep Squad is a non-auditioned organization for all students who are interested in pursuing the aspect of dance at a high school performance level.  Members are taught basic dance technique in several disciplines, with a primary focus on jazz.  Strict discipline and high moral standards are required of all members.  Pep Squad is an extra-curricular activity that requires a significant amount of time and commitment outside of regular school hours.   Fees are also required.  Contact the high school director for more information.

-       Varsity Dance Team
Varsity Dance Team is an auditioned and competitive organization.  Varsity dance elaborates on the fundamentals taught in pep squad, with a focus on more advanced disciplines, including flexibility and high-kick, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip-hop.  Strict discipline and high moral standards are required of all members.  Varsity Dance Team is an extra-curricular activity that requires a significant amount of time and commitment outside of regular school hours.   Fees are also required.  Contact the high school director for more information.
