About Us

The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District is a fast-growth district with a small-town atmosphere. SCUCISD is located on the northeast side of San Antonio within a 73-square mile area that includes Bexar and Guadalupe counties.

As more and more people discover the high quality of life and education available for residents of the SCUCISD, the district continues to grow.

During the last 15 years, the enrollment in the district has more than doubled. The district now serves nearly 12,000 students with a student-teacher ratio of 15-to-1. Students come from Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City, Selma, St. Hedwig and occasionally Randolph Air Force Base.

Though the district’s name has eventually evolved into perhaps the longest school district name in Texas, its roots date back to the early 1900s when the district was named the Schertz School District. During the mid-1930s, the Schertz and Cibolo districts became one. Universal City was added to the name in 1967.

The district is currently home to seven elementary schools, two intermediate schools that house the district’s fifth- and sixth-graders, and two junior high schools. The district will open two new schools in the fall of 2009 to address growth and equity. These schools are being built under the May 2006 bond program valued at $207 million.

In August, SCUCISD will open the replacement campus for Ray D. Corbett Junior High School on FM 1518 in Schertz and the new Elaine S. Schlather Intermediate School off Green Valley Road in Cibolo. The replacement campus for Schertz Elementary also opened in March 2009 and is located in the heart of Schertz.

SCUCISD opened its second high school, Byron P. Steele II High School, in 2005. Steele High School joins the prestigious ranks of Samuel Clemens High School with its commitment to solid education by preparing the ninth through twelfth graders to go on to college or enter the workforce.

The Allison L. Steele Enhanced Learning Center offers ninth- through 12th-graders an opportunity to obtain a diploma in a self-paced environment. Using the Boys Town and the Character Counts models, the Cibolo Center located in the Marion Dolford Learning Center offers students an alternate place to learn while sharpening their discipline skills.

The district offers students a myriad or opportunity to receive a top-quality education at all grade levels. The district is proud to be amongst a very few in the area to hold a charter for an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program. The IB program is a two-year advanced studies program that is housed at Clemens High School.

In addition to the students’ successes, SCUCISD continues to be one of the highest-paying school districts in the state and maintains an employee retention rate that other districts envy.

Administrative offices for the district are located at 1060 Elbel Road, across the street from Clemens High School in Schertz. Regular board meetings are usually held at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the central administration office.

The Board of Trustees includes George Ricks, Scott Harrod, Ed Finley, Katherine Peel, Gary Inmon, Mark Wilson and David Pevoto. Dr. Belinda Pustka has been the district's superintendent for the past seven years.
