Checking Out Books

* Classes have a designated day (Monday-Thursday) to visit the Library.  Books are due on that day every week.  ALL books must be returned in order to check out again.  Books are returned the morning they are due (see below for schedule).  Each classroom has a library book crate for returning books.  Books may be renewed by taking them directly to the library for recheck. (Students can do that when their class goes to library.)

* Pre-Kindergarten will begin checking out books during the spring semester.

* Kindergarten may check out 1 book.

* 1st-3rd grades may check out 2 books.

* 4th grade may check out 2 books (Three books may be checked out with their "Wolverine Book" pass.)

Overdue Books / Fines

* Students who do not return their books may not check out until their books are returned.

* Overdue notes are given every Friday.  If you notice a discrepancy, please let me know ASAP.  You can call me at 945-6305 or e-mail me.

* Students / parents are responsible for paying for lost or damaged books.  Please see Mrs. Neal for book cost.  (If you wish for your child not to check out library books, please contact Mrs. Neal.)  Lost books that are found will be issued a refund at the end of the school year. (They must be in the same condition as when they were checked out.)

Look What We're Learning in the Library!
Pre-Kinder / PPCD
We are reading books about spring and colors.
Second Grade
In April, students will begin a research project on the Painted Lady Butterfly.  We will even have live insects to observe!

Kindergarten
Students are learning or reviewing nursery rhymes.  We will be making a nursery rhyme book which will go home once the unit is complete.  For nursery rhyme music (without the words) go to www.kididdles.com.
Third Grade
The last 10 weeks of school will be spent working on a research project.  Students are working in groups to research facts about animals and their relatives.  Students are expected to find facts using a nonfiction book and the Internet.  The facts will be presented using a poster board.
First Grade
Students are learning about the Theodore Seuss Geisel Award.  We are reading some of the winners.  Students may now check out two Easy Fiction or nonfiction books of their choice but are expected to make responsible decisions about their choices.
Fourth Grade

The last 10 weeks of school will be spent working on a research project.  Students are working in groups to research facts about an interesting topic.  A nonfiction book and the Internet are to be used, and the facts, along with pictures, will be made into a Photo Story.

Accelerated Reader (AR)

* AR is a program where students read books on their reading level.  A quiz is taken on the computer, and points are earned, depending on the number of questions answered correctly.

* Each student is given a goal of a certain amount of points to earn.  When the goal is met, the student receives recognition by having a star placed on our AR wall (outside the Library).   The student then works on their next goal.

* Students meeting certain criteria can attend the end-of-year A.R. Celebration.

K = 10 passed quizzes
1st = 15 passed quizzes
2nd = 20 passed quizzes
3rd = 25 passed quizzes
4th = 30 passed quizzes

All students must maintain an 85% average.

When can A.R. Quizzes be taken?

* In the Library throughout the day, with teacher's permission.

* Parents may help their child take an AR quiz in the Library in the mornings from 7:45-8:15.

* Students may take quizzes in their classrooms.
