Steele Band receives “Wow! from UIL judges

The Steele Band earned 1st division, superior, ratings from all three judges at the UIL Region Marching Contest held at Judson Stadium on Oct. 17. According to the Band Director Kyle Friesenhahn, the judges wrote “wow, I enjoyed the show!” on their comment sheets.


With a 1st division rating at the UIL Region Marching Contest, the Steele Band advanced to the Area Marching Contest held Oct. 24at Hays Stadium in Buda. The Band placed 6th out of 20 bands, earning a spot in the finals.


This is the first time that the Steele Band has qualified for Area Finals, since the inception of the format using preliminaries and finals in 2004. The Steele Band was named 2nd alternate to the State Marching Contest after their performance in the finals. 


The Steele Band also placed 1st in Division 6 Open at the USSBA contests on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3. Division 6 Open is the category for bands with over 199 students. It is the largest category in competition at the USSBA contests. Many 5A bands compete in this category.
