Welcome!
Come on in and explore Science!

I love Science and hope to foster that same love of learning and exploring in your child. My class is designed so that students are actively questioning, experimenting, anaylzing, and sharing their ideas/findings in a hands-on environment. The goal is not only to help your child make sense of the world around them, but to also help them become lifelong learners. It todays society, technology and sciences are in the forefront. My goal is to get them interested and to start building a foundation of science based knowlegde.

About me......
I am on my ninth year of teaching. I also have a masters in Educational Leadership. All my life I have been interested in things that dealt with the sciences. As a child, all of the jobs that I saw myself doing when I grew up, involved science. In high school I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. My family is from Boston and I grew up on the beach learning how to sail, swim, and eat seafood. Now, I scuba dive so that I still get to experience and learn about the ocean environment. I also thought I wanted to be an Archeologist. That was just not going to work out since I do not like the feel of dirt. I love museums and am constantly reading and watching shows that depict findings of ancient civilization. I actually entered college under the biology program in hopes of transfering to UT Health Science Center Medical School. I married a cardiac nurse instead. Even though I did not become part of those career fields, I am still very much interested in their findings and am constantly seeking out information to expand my knowledge and to fuel my natural curiosity.

This is a picture of me...
That's me and my husband at Fenway Park. I love the Boston Red Sox.

Having a family from Boston, I love the Bo Soxs. I also love the Patriots and the Bruins. I am not a bandwagon fan that only likes a team because they are winning. I like the Bruins and they rarely win. I am a big sports fan, though I am not too keen on Basketball. I took Chad, my husband, to Boston one summer. I had to take him to see how much the town had to offer. He's a Schertz boy through and through who does not like big cities. Of course, a baseball game was a must. We are five rows up right next to Peske's Pole. Chad even caught a ball at the game which he gave to a family sitting next to us. We had a great time singing Sweet Caroline and cannot wait to go back.

I am a big reader. I often have two books going at once. I love mysterys. Recently my brother got me interested in two local authors that write juvenille fiction. I have read all the books they have published and am patiently waiting for them to come out with new ones. I would recommend them to anybody, young or old. I tend to read books that my students like so that we can talk about them. Last year three of my students and I had a race as to who would finish Peter and The Shadow Theives first.

Peter and The Starcatchers is written as a prequel to Peter Pan. There are three books in this series thus far. It basically explains how Peter Pan, the lost boys, and the island of Neverland came to be.
Great stories that the whole family can appreciate.
Percy Jackson and The Olympians is about a child who is a decendant of the Greek God Poseidon. He meets other children that are also decendant of Gods. They are constantly in danger. It is a typical scene of good versus evil with a fun twist. There are four books in this series so far.....

Strategies for Success
Please check your childs planner every night. Look for positive notes in blue. Warning notes in black and behavior infractions in red.

Look at Gradespeed weekly if not more often with your child. If there is a "MSG" message instead of a grade, that means your child has not turned the assignment in and the gradebook is recording a zero until it is received.
(If you do not have internest access from home, the local library has computers avaliable for use.)

Set aside a quite place for them to study where you can still keep an eye on them. This is away from things that will distract them such as TV or a computer.

Check their homework. Go over it with them or ask them to teach you what they learned.

Organization is also a big factor. Often times the chid does his/her homework, but it never gets turned in. Give your child a set place to put homework so that it is easy to locate.
