World Geography Syllabus

Welcome to Geography class. I hope that you find this class to be interesting and that you learn a lot about other cultures and countries. You may also learn interesting facts about your own environment and culture. The information that you learn in this class could benefit you for the rest of your life. You will hear about situations in other countries on the news, and one day, you may travel to other parts of the world. This class should give you an idea of what to expect if you were to take a trip around the world.
Geography is the study of the distribution and the interaction of physical and human features on earth. In this class, we will focus on the 5 themes of geography which are: Location ~ Where is it exactly? Place ~ What is it like? Movement ~ How do people, ideas, and goods move from one location to another? Region ~ How are places similar or different within the same region? Human Environment Interaction ~How do the people affect the land and how does the land affect the people who live there?
In this class, you will work with the workbooks that accompany the textbook. There will also be numerous maps to complete of the different regions that we will study. There will be unit tests, map tests, and a final project for this class. The grading system follows:

The following elements will be covered in this class:
1. The 5 themes of geography.
2. Bodies of water and landforms.
3. External and Internal forces that shape the earth.
4. Climate, culture, population, economical, and political geographic concepts.
5. The physical and cultural geography of: The United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Russia, Africa, Southwest Asia, South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia including Oceania and Antarctica.

Geography Units
Here are the 10 Units for Geography. Geography A (1st semester) is comprised of Units 1-5 and Geography B (2nd Semester) is comprised of Units 6-10.

Unit 2 - The United States and Canada
Unit 5 - Russia - Central and Northern Asia
Unit 10 - Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Antarctica
