American Government Syllabus
Allison Steele Enhanced Learning Center
Welcome to Government! I am very pleased to have you in my class. In this class, we will study the branches of government, how laws are made, politics, economics, and the history of the United States government.
This course is required in order for you to graduate. I think this course is also required if you wish to be a productive member of society as you enter the real world. You will be directly affected by the government for the rest of your life, and it is important that you understand how and why the government operates. Examples of governmental actions that you may currently or will face in the near future are taxes, voting, personal rights, state and national laws, and many others.
In this course, there are 7 Units in which you have 30 days to complete. Most students take 15-20 days, so if you take longer than 30 days, I will withdraw you from the course, and you must start over. There are worksheets and other activities that must be completed with each Unit. After all daily work is completed, you will take (and pass) a unit test. If an exam is failed, students must make corrections and retest. Upon completion of the worksheets and tests, you will be required to complete a project, which will count as 2 test grades.
The following essential elements will be covered in this class:
1. Foundations and Development of the United States political system.
2. Structures and functions of national, state, and local governments.
3. Participation and decision-making in civic affairs
4. Respect of self and others. Bill of Rights.
5. Democratic beliefs and personal responsibilities.
If you complete the class before the allotted number of days that is great! You can move on to your next course and become one step closer to graduation!
The grading system is as follows:
7 Unit Workbook Sections 7 Daily Grades
7 Unit Tests 7 Test Grades
Project 2 Test Grades
I look forward to having you in my class. I will be available to help you, and I want you to succeed in this class. Feel free to contact me if there is ever anything you need. Good Luck!
