Islanders Hello fellow Islanders, I will be your Language Arts host for this school year. Allow me to take you on a most extraordinary adventure into the art of imaginary literature, poetry, speeches from famous and timeless figures of history, exploratory writing, and mind intoxicating philosophies from all over the world. All I ask of you is to have an open mind, and to take this challenge with me. There is so much we can learn together and from each other.
In order to understand the English Language Arts we must allow ourselves to bring our knowledge of those things we already know and understand to the class. We must pull from those resources and expel them into our discourse as individuals to the class as a whole. One cannot begin to understand why an author wrote a piece of literature or an artist painted a picture, or why an explorer didn’t fall off the edge of the earth or why a scientist just happened upon E=mc2 without understanding the history and influences of that time. That being said, yes, History, Science and Mathematics are integral players in the world of literature. Bring your knowledge of your academia to class each and every day.
There is one tiny pet peeve I have and that is when someone believes the idea that something is not worthy of exploring without having even given it a chance. Let’s all work on entering the Language Arts world with a willingness to give and share our experiences and be mature enough to embrace that which we don’t understand and to perhaps explore and study it further.
Language Arts Oath
I, (your name), will not say I do not like to read, I don’t read, this is boring, is this for homework, are we getting a grade on this and can I borrow a pen.
I am an integral part of this class, I make up the dynamics of this class, I am a contributor to this class and without me this would not be a class.
Therefore, I pledge to keep an open mind, to be a key player in our daily learning experiences, and to contribute my worldly knowledge to the class as a whole every day.
I am important to this class's learning experience.
