Welcome to the Samuel Clemens
International Baccalaureate Program

Samuel Clemens High School is proud to be an IB World School.  Clemens received authorization to offer the IB Diploma Program in 2005 after several years of hard work by the Clemens Administration and Faculty.  All students are welcome to apply to the IB Program at Clemens.  If you are interested in attending Clemens to participate in the IB Program, please download and read the Information Booklet found under the Prospective IB Students links to the left.  While most students apply to the Clemens IB Program in the 8th grade, 9th and 10th grade students are also welcome to apply.  Most IB students at Clemens are seeking the full IB Diploma, but IB Certificates are also an option for students.  Please contact the IB Coordinator to determine which option is best for you.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a rigorous course of study designed to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary students.  The effectiveness of the IB Diploma Program is due not only to the depth of the individual courses, but also to the comprehensive nature of the program.  Unlike other honors/advanced programs, IB Diploma students take courses in six academic areas.  To qualify for the IB Diploma, students must take examinations in six subject areas, participate in the Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) Program, and write an extended essay during the 11th and 12th grade years.  The Diploma candidate must also take a unique course known as Theory of Knowledge (TOK).  In this course, students explore the connections and similiarities between the various subjects, learn to think, and apply interrelated concepts.  For more information regarding the specific requirements for earning the IB Diploma, please see the IB General Rules and Regulations available for download to the left.

Students participating in the IB Diploma program may be able to earn advanced standing or credit at universities worldwide.  All universities have their own policies for awarding advanced standing and/or credit, so please visit the university website of interest to you to view their policies or contact the univerisity.  Some universities have made their policies available to IB and can be found on the IBO website at www.ibo.org.
