TAKS Benchmark, Part 3 Dec. 10
Students will read a short story and then answer several multiple choiuce questions as well as a short answer question.  This is a quiz grade.

PARENTS & STUDENTS:  
Please remember to view  "assignments" on the left bar for the latest updates and assignments. Just click on the appropriate class assignment on the side navigation panel.

Things to remember:

1.  Students must wear their ID, above the waist, at all times.

2.  ANY student failing a core course after 3,6,9 weeks will be required to attend mandatory tutorials, assigned by administrators,  for the first 20 minutes of lunch.  These tutorials will be mandtory until the  next progress report is sent out and the student is passing.

3.  If a student is tardy to class the following will apply:
    a.  1st tardy: warning
    b. 2nd tardy: teacher detention
    c. 3rd tardy: referrral to administrator
                        3rd tardy becomes an unexcused absence  

4.  NO cell phones should be on or visible in the classroom or hallways. If a cell phone is seen, rings, etc. it will be taken up, given to the students vice principal, and a fee or $15 will be required to release the phone.

5.  iPods and ear phones should not be used or  be visible in the hall or classrooms.  These items will be taken up and given to the students vice principal.


TAKS Objectives  
Reading Objectives
The ninth grade reading TAKS objectives are listed below.

Objective 1: The student will demonstrate a basic understanding of culturally diverse written texts.

Objective 2: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the effects of literary elements and
techniques in culturally diverse written texts.

Objective 3: The student will demonstrate the ability to analyze and critically evaluate culturally
diverse written texts and visual representations.

Objectives 1, 2, and 3 will be assessed through multiple-choice items based on a set of three pieces,
called a “triplet,” presented for the student to read. In addition, Objectives 2 and 3 will be assessed through three open-ended (short-answer) items. Each open-ended item is equivalent to three multiple-choice items.

I am available every morning from 7:30-8:15 in Room G241. Students who have 4th lunch can also request a pass to come up after lunch. If additional times are needed, appointments can be made.

TAKS benchmarks
In an effort to help students explore the expectations of rhe 9th grade reading TAKS they take a benchmark exam. We divide this exam into 4 separate sections and take 1 or 2 days each month to actually take the exam portion. Below are the weeks in which we can provide these benchmark opportunities.

Oct. 6-10: Revising & Editing
November 10-14: Nonfiction reading with multiple choice (MC) questions and short answers (SA)
Dec. 8-12: Fiction reading with MC and SA
Jan. 20-23: Essay
