Dear Parents/ Guardians: Welcome to the wonderful world of ESL!  Here is what the ESL classes will be doing on a weekly basis: English I and II will be having a spelling test or a vocabulary test every Friday so make sure your son/ daughter studies for this. Every 9 weeks an oral report will be done in the English I class this is practice for speech class and helps to prepare the students for oral presentations in other classes as well. Help your son or daughter be successful on the TAKS test by going to the Texas Education Agency website and taking practice tests in all four core subjects! I know that this will be a wonderful year for all of us!

Sincerely,   Mrs. Pogue

Parents, students and other visitors to this website: WELCOME!!!
ESL stands for English As a Second Language and when a student comes from another country without English skills he or she is placed in one of my ESL classes. It is here that I offer a caring, nuturing environment that permits a student to become proficient in the English language. This is not an easy process for many students and becoming proficient may take from five to seven years (for those that have had a formal education the time can be less). Your son or daughter can visit the other websites that are posted on the left hand side of this page to practice more english skills at home. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions:
Conference: 11:25-12:20 Phone: 945-6100
ESL Students and Parents : If your son or daughter is absent, please ask for makeup work. Remember you can attend tutoring if you need to do so, just let me have at least one day's notice! Please look for progress reports sent home every three weeks and don't forget you can access Gradespeed to look at your son or daughter's grades.

Sincerely,

 Ms. Pogue

*Note: If you want to see whether or not your son or daughter has homework for my class, he or she will be copying down assignments daily into a notebook so you can check this on a daily basis. You may also use this as a way to send me a message if you do not have access to e-mail!

TAKS TESTING
Just a reminder that TAKS testing for Math, Science, and Social Studies is in April. Students should be attending tutoring if they are doing poorly in any of these subjects. Please contact your son or daughter's teachers for tutoring days and times!
