About the Jordan Band Program
JORDAN EAGLE BAND MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of the Jordan Intermediate Band is to develop well-rounded musicians who are respectful, responsible, and caring life-long advocates of the arts.The band program at Jordan Intermediate is the first phase of an eight-year program of musical instruction. Participation in band at this level will give each of the students the necessary knowledge and skills to be prepared to enter the next phase of musical instruction, either at Corbett or Dobie Junior High School, and eventually on to Clemens or Steele High School.Throughout the year, all students will perform in various concerts with their respective band (6th Grade Beginner Band, 6th Grade Concert Band, or 6th Grade Honor Band). Students will also have the ability to perform in a Solo and Ensemble Contest to be held during the Spring Semester, and possibly at a Spring Festival.
5th Grade Fine Arts Band Rotation
During the 5th grade rotation, students meet in classes based on their home rooms to study band instrument groups. Students learn pre-band instruments named Nuvo Toot, Nuvo Dood, and the P-Bone P-Buzz. Pre-instrument classes allow our future band members to focus on the basic fundamentals of music, and make decisions on what instrument to play if they choose band as a sixth grade. This rotation allows the director time to introduce the band classes before making a elective choice in 6th grade.
6th Grade Beginning Band
During the first year as a member of the Jordan Intermediate Eagle Band, students meet in classes of like-instrument groups. Like-instrument classes allows our band members to focus on the basic fundamentals of their instruments. It also allows the director to give more instrument-specific instruction, and individual attention during the important early stages of musical development.
6th Grade Band Concert Band and Honor Band
During the second year, all 6th Grade students are grouped into larger, band-like settings, where more challenging music is played, and the student's technical as well as musical abilities continue to develop. Emphasis is placed on utilizing the student's individual performance skills as well as critical thinking skills to contribute to a whole that is larger than the self. Ensemble skills will be taught as well as continued efforts to build more proficient individual players.
The Eagle Concert and Honor Bands are performance-based ensembles consisting of an advanced group of dedicated 6th grade musicians that rehearse during, before, and after school in sectionals and rehearsals. Student placement in Concert or Honor Band is based on student ability level, and an audition. Both Concert and Honor Band play more challenging music, and each group has several opportunities to perform at school functions, and in the community as well as compete in local Band Festivals. Attendance at weekly Band sectionals and rehearsals is essential due to the demands of the music, and the limited amount of rehearsal time available. In addition, students MUST be in good academic standing at the end of every nine weeks. Finally, students must exhibit good citizenship and character. If a member does not follow the expectations listed above, he/she will be removed from the ensemble. DOJO messages are answered immediately, almost 24/7. I can set up a Zoom lesson during this office hour time where I invite classes, and you can come to me with questions, or play your instrument for me for feed back. Email is an option as well, but that does take a little longer to respond. Always remember to check Google Classroom and DOJO daily. In Google Classroom you can post questions and I can respond to you as well.
