"Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or  algorithms: it is about understanding."  - William Paul Thurston

I was born in San Antonio, but have lived in Tennessee for most of my life. I even went to kindergarten in Tennessee! I lived there through college and have my bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Since then, I have taught kindergarten, second grade, sixth grade, and fifth grade. This will be my 11th year teaching and my 7th year at Wilder! I am absolutely PASSIONATE about teaching math, and as a lifetime learner, I LOVE science, so when it aligns that I get to teach both, I know it's going to be an amazing year!

I currently live in New Braunfels. I enjoy coffee, traveling the world, karaoke, video gaming, coloring, telling jokes, hiking, watching anime, spending time with friends and family, and hiking and running with my dog, Rio!

As a young child, I LOVED math. I understood it quickly and it was easy for me. As I got older and math got "harder", I started to struggle a bit more. I still GOT it, but it felt like it took me longer than the others around me. I had friends tutor me after class to help me catch up. It was this struggle that led me to dislike math - I no longer WANTED to be successful in math. Instead, I wanted to avoid it.

When I started teaching and learning about the foundations of math, I relearned the foundations of math in a much more flexible way, with multiple paths being options to a solution. This reignited my love of math and has made me, all around, a better mathematician!

I am absolutely passionate about teaching math because I understand what it feels like to struggle, and--through my own personal struggle--I learned how to try and use multiple strategies to help me succeed.

It's not about being a human calculator. It's about becoming a mathematical thinker. This is my goal when it comes to teaching math.

When it comes to science, my goal is for kids to leave each day going "WOW!" Earth, space, the human brain - it is all absolutely amazing! My job as a science teacher is simply to be a partner as your kiddo explores the amazing world in which we live.
