Brief Bio
-
I was born in San Antonio, and raised in Schertz, Texas. I had the pleasure of attending K-12 in SCUCISD (Schertz, Weiderstein, Dobie, Corbett, and Clemens). I graduated in 1996, and moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, to attend Midwestern State University to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
While chasing my dream and working as a television reporter, I met my future husband and began rethinking my future of living a life of 24-hours-a-day news. I spent less than a year working in a television newsroom before deciding that I wanted to pursue a different career. Upon graduation, I began working at State Farm Insurance. I spent over four years with the company as a Public Relations Specialist.
I absolutely loved my job, but soon caught the teaching "bug" through my community partnerships with school. This was a natural coincidence since my parents dedicated a combined 60+ years to education right here in SCUCISD. So, in 2004 I decided to go back to school and take the plunge to become an educator. I began my career at the high school level, but soon found an unexpected love in the elementary setting after teaching 5th grade in Smyrna, Georgia. I was fortunate enough to move home in 2010 to raise my family and to continue my career. I taught 2nd and 4th grade at Schertz Elementary until 2013 when I became the assistant principal at Paschal Elementary. I joined Watts Elementary as the principal in February 2017, and have been loving it ever since. I often say that "it takes a village" to do this work, and I am so blessed to be a part of the Watts family.
I've been married for 15 years to my college sweetheart, and we are having the time of our lives raising our 3 sons.
