Language Arts Expectations
Grades: Formative grades are worth 50% and include: class/ group participation, daily work, homework, writing practice, projects and quizzes. Summative grades are in the form of tests and they are worth 50% of overall grade.
Assignments: Student assignments are posted weekly on the classroom agenda, and students can also sign up for reminder text messages through "Remind," a private and safe messaging service for teachers and students. Just reference the link on my website for more information.
Late work: Work that is late will be accepted up to 5 school days after the due date (not to exceed the end of the nine-week grading period). A late penalty of 10 points per day (not to exceed 30 points) will be deducted from the assignment as described in the Corbett student handbook. Please refer to the Corbett website for a copy of the district grading policy.
Absent: Students are responsible for getting any missed work from the absent/ missing work file in class, the classroom agenda, Google classroom, or the teacher. Students have one day to complete absent work for each day of school that was missed as described in the student handbook grading policy.
Online Textbook: Literature book is accessible online at . Students can login with user name: password: The website has an interactive reader and study guides for student support.
STAAR: 8th Grade students will take a reading test on April 2021. Students who are not successful on the Reading STAAR test will be placed with a tutoring group and retested on May 2021.
Tutoring: Homework assistance will be available every morning before school in the Library. Homework help is available each morning in the library from 7:45-8:05 and tutoring is available by appointment.
