CLASS RULES AND STANDARDS
The Criminal Justice program shall provide students with an insight into the United States and Texas Criminal Justice System, as well as possible career opportunities. Additionally, this course is a tech prep course. To ensure the success of this class, the following rules and standards shall apply:
1. SCHOOL DISTRICT RULES AND REGULATIONS
a. All school district rules and regulations shall be enforced and shall supersede any individual class rule.
2. COURSE ATTENDANCE
a. Roll will be taken immediately after the final bell. Students are to immediately take their assigned seats for attendance. Any student arriving after the bell is TARDY. Exception: Passes from other teachers, administrators, and other school personnel. Attendance is very important to the successful completion of this course. Every student should make every effort to attend class each day. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor to make arrangements for any make-up assignments, Quizzes, Tests, and/or Lab Assignments. This should be accomplished the day after their return to school.
b. Absences that are excused must follow District Policy and make arrangements to make up work with the instructor. Failure to follow this policy shall result in a grade of ZERO.
c. Extra credit is available to students to improve their averages. Extra credit is not meant to replace a grade of zero for an assignment that was turned in or made up.
3. COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
a. Class time may be given to complete assignments. However, failure to take advantage of this time will result in forfeiture of this privilege.
b. All class assignments are to be turned in at the beginning of class. Please see the district grading guidelines for further information.
4. INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CONDUCT
a. Students shall come to class prepared with required items for class and ready to learn. This is a “hands on” course and students must participate safely and effectively.
b. There shall be no talking or sharing of answers from the time the first test is passed out until the last test is handed in. Failure to comply with this will result in a ZERO BEING ASSIGNED TO THE STUDENT AND HIS/HER PARENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED.
c. This course requires class discussion and participation. The following guidelines shall be enforced to maintain order in the classroom:
1. Wait to be recognized before speaking.
i. Do not interrupt or yell out answers.
2. Disrespect towards others will not be tolerated.
i. Name calling, insults, or abusive language.
3. Any disruptive behavior will result in the inability for the class to provide an academic environment. Violations will be handled in accordance with SCUCISD policy, including possible removal from class.
4. NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED.
d. NO FOOD OR DRINK shall be allowed in the classroom. Water bottles are the only exception.
e. NO ONE shall be allowed behind the instructor’s desk or in any storage area at any time, unless directed to do so by the instructor.
f. USE OF THE STUDENT COMPUTERS MUST BE AUTHORIZED BY THE INSTRUCTOR BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO USE THE STUDENT COMPUTERS.
This contract is an agreement between the student and the Criminal Justice Instructor at Steele High School. The rules of this contract are to be followed at all times. Failure to comply could result in dismissal from the Criminal Justice Program and/or a more severe punishment (i.e. Criminal Law).
This contract is in full effect and if any of the rules are broken (at a minimum) you will be issued a teacher held detention. If your misbehavior continues, the consequences will increase.
