Our Work

  • What we are doing to reach common goals and commitments focused on our shared purpose:

    1.  Tell our Story

Action Step 1: Discover our beliefs.  Campus Leadership Team Meeting, July 28, 2015

    Evidence:
    Agenda

Learning Objective - To discover our common purpose and collective commitments that drive collaborative decision-making.

    Performance Objectives:

Articulate beliefs that resonate with us as educators

Develop a working mantra that describes our purpose (as a team and a school) in fewer than 8 words.

Identify individual and group strengths and needs for working together

Individually and collectively articulate common commitments for working together

Develop a master(ful) schedule using common commitments and beliefs as a driving force

    1. Beliefs.  Review district beliefs, identify a belief that most reflects you or resonates the most with you as an educator.  Share with a partner why you chose that particular belief and an example of when that belief drove your decision-making (or perhaps a situation in which you aspire to live the belief).
    2. What is the purpose of this group of leaders?  What are some of our responsibilities ?
    3. Compass Activity.  What is the composition of the team.  What impact will having the team composition that exists.  What strengths does each direction provide?  What do we need to remember when we are working with each of the different directions.  Are we balanced or imbalanced.  If imbalanced, what we will need to do to protect our effectiveness?
    4. Looking at the strengths and challenges of our team composition, what common commitments do we need to make to each other in order to work effectively?  Is this list of common commitments a static list or a dynamic list?

Action Step 2:  Discover Campus Beliefs.  1st Day of Professional Development for 15-16 School Year:

    Evidence

Learning Objective - To discover our common purpose and collective commitments that drive collaborative decision-making.

    Performance Objectives:

Articulate beliefs that resonate with us as educators

Develop a working mantra that describes our purpose (as a team and a school) in fewer than 8 words.

Identify individual and group strengths and needs for working together

Individually and collectively articulate common commitments for working together

Develop campus-wide and team specific meeting norms by working in a positive, collaborative manner which aligns to our beliefs/mantra

Select leadership roles where individual and group strengths will work towards creating a learning environment where 'all means all' is evident

    1. Introduction of new Stallions (Yoder, Glunt, Fenner, Roper, Beck, Hubble, Berghofer, Koenig, McClain)
    2. Thank Chris and Lenore
    3. Ice Breaker - Myles and Mayotte, Cheerleader song
    4. In 4 words or less (or one drawn picture) describe your summer.  Share with your table, elaboration is not allowed at this time.
    5. Each person at the table share one thing they are sacrificing to be mentally and physically present today.
    6. Find a picture of a child that means the world to you.  It can be anybody.  Dedicate your learning today to that child.

    1. Beliefs.  Review district beliefs, identify a belief that most reflects you or resonates the most with you as an educator.  Share with a partner why you chose that particular belief and an example of when that belief drove your decision-making (or perhaps a situation in which you aspire to live the belief).  Share out at your table.  Share out as a group.

    1. Discuss 'All means all".  Think of the child that took you the longest to find what "switch" but that was ultimately successful.  At your table, I encourage you to tell your story to your team.  Share out.

    1. What are the themes that underlie our stories?  8 word or less summary statement/mantra

    1. When we say 'all means all' we are committing to each child, to everyone in this room and every parent that entrust their child to us that we will not allow this child to fail on our watch.  We will treat each child as if they were the child that you dedicated your learning to today.  Tell story of Juan or Jacobus.
    2. Connect to our purpose/mission - high levels of learning for all!

    2. Looking at the strengths and challenges of our team composition, what common commitments do we need to make to each other in order to work effectively?  Is this list of common commitments a static list or a dynamic list?
    3. Shannon's picture
    4. On a sticky note, write 3 things that cause you to disengage or resist going to meetings.  Then write 3 things that help you stay engaged or spark your learning.  These are aligned to make the norms.

Next Steps:  Change beliefs and underlying themes into team common commitments needed to reach our purpose.  These commitments will include commitments to becoming more effective in helping all students learn.

To be completed in an action plan style and included in the Campus Improvement Plan.

    Step 2:  Display our story

Suggestions for displaying our story (from PLC Academy conversations)

    1.  Post story #4 near the faculty gate
    2.  Paint (or something agreeable from maintenance) a green threshold as you walk into the gate with the words, "It all Starts With ME!"  underneath..."ALL means ALL"
    3.  Post the sayings listed above in teacher work areas
    4.  Business cards with story #4 and "Believe, Inspire, Lead...Working Together so all Succeed."

    Step 3.  Keep Saying It.

    1.  Practice redirecting narratives that contradict our story in CLT meetings, in Team meetings, Goal Team meetings, and informal meetings.
