The best thing for being sad,” replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, “is to learn something. That’s the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.

    Come to the edge."

    "We can't. We're afraid."

    "Come to the edge."

    "We can't. We will fall!"

    "Come to the edge."

    And they came.

    And he pushed them.

    And they flew.

    ~~Guillaume Apollinaire
    French Poet, 1880-1918

"Promise me you will always remember-You are braver than you believe,

stronger than you seem and smarter than you think."

     Christopher Robin to Pooh

Reading is one of the main things I do.  Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel I’ve accomplished something, learned something, become a

better person.  Reading makes me smarter.  Reading gives me something

to talk about later on.  Reading is the unbelievably healthy way

my attention deficit medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the

opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality

after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making

contact with someone else’s imagination after a day

that’s  all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.’

    By Nora Ephron

    Somerset Maugham said,

"To acquire the habit of reading is

to construct for yourself a refuge

from almost all the miseries of life."
