Welcome to Corbett UIL - School Coordinator: Brandy Bagnall
What is Academic UIL?The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive literary and academic competitive program in the nation. It offers more than any other UIL division in terms of activities, with 22 high school and 18 elementary and junior high contests. More than a half million students participate in UIL academic contests. In addition, the UIL sponsors the Interscholastic League Press Conference, one of the nation's oldest, largest and most highly respected student press associations. These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. More information about UIL can be found at www.uil.utexas.eduOur district's competition participants include: Corbett Jr. High, Dobie Jr. High, Oak Run Middle School, and New Braunfels Middle School.Meet and Practice Information1) Information about events, practice times, coaches and meet dates will be given during the kickoff meeting and each student's science class. If you don't return the form, it's okay you can come by my room or just show up for practices.2) Event practices will be held once a week. If you cannot make the weekly practice times PLEASE go see your coach to make alternative arrangements. A list of events, event descriptions and coaches is shown below.3) We want the best of the best competing for Corbett! I can only take so many students per event so you are competing for a spot, just because you sign up doesn't necessarily mean you will make the team for that week. Attend practices, do your best, let your coach know you want that spot!4) Meets consist of two student qualifying competitions and one "Tournament of Champions" competition. The meets usually start in January and will be finished by the end of February, all are on Saturdays and run from approximately 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.5) A student may participate in many different events. This broadens the students' chances for qualifying to attend the "Tournament of Champions".Important DatesUIL Kickoff - October 28 @ 3:45-4:30 in the libraryPractice Begins - November 4Qualifying Meet 1 - January 25 @ Oak Run Middle SchoolQualifying Meet 2 - February 22 @ Dobie Junior HighTournament of Champions - February 29 @ New Braunfels Middle School
