    OnRamps in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD

SCUCISD has open enrollment for Dual Enrollment (OnRamps) courses. All students who are willing and academically prepared to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should consider taking an OnRamps course. There are no testing requirements prior to enrolling in OnRamps. A student may decline the college grade if the student considers his/her performance to be unsatisfactory and does not want the college grade to show on a college transcript.

    OnRamps Program Information

OnRamps is a signature initiative of The University of Texas at Austin established in 2011, with support from the Texas Legislature, to provide advanced academic opportunities to high school students and robust professional development to teachers across the state. Since the inaugural academic year of 2012-2013, OnRamps has been offering dual enrollment and distance education to high school students to engage in authentic college experiences and earn college credit while in the familiarity of the high school setting. Aligning the academic and social expectations of high school to college is key for students’ postsecondary readiness and success. OnRamps dual enrollment courses are designed by University Faculty with just that in mind and prepare them to be successful at public higher education institutions across the state of Texas and beyond. High school teachers of an OnRamps course receive over 80 hours of training and year-round support their first year with OnRamps, followed by over 35 hours each subsequent year.

    OnRamps Learner Profile

Students who have been in on-level courses but are ready for a challenge are great candidates for OnRamps. Also, students who have taken previous AP and Dual Credit Course can benefit from an OnRamps course. OnRamps provides students with multiple opportunities to demonstrate learning instead of one major exam. OnRamps is a good option for students who would like to challenge themselves in a low risk and supportive environment.

    Curriculum and Assessment in OnRamps

Students prepare for the academic demands and social expectations of higher education through OnRamps college-credit bearing courses. They are empowered to take on the role of college student at a low risk, due in part to their status as non-matriculated students and a scaffolded support system, and they are able to demonstrate course proficiency beyond test scores and class rank. OnRamps dual enrollment courses are designed by the University of Texas at Austin faculty for high school students to engage in authentic college experiences and for their teachers to deepen their content knowledge and impact in the classroom.

    College Admissions and Credit Policies

OnRamps students who earn college credit receive a college transcript along with separate high school credit and a high school transcript. OnRamps college credit earned for a letter grade of C- or above for courses with a Core Curriculum designation are required by law to transfer to any public higher education institution in the state of Texas. Each college or university evaluates transfer credit based on its own policies, which vary by school, college, and institution. In order to determine how OnRamps courses will transfer, if they will apply to a major or degree program, and if the grade will factor into the GPA, students must contact the higher education institution they plan to attend.
