Welcome back to school! We will have a great school year!   PLEASE READ!!!!!

This year your child has two teachers; Ms. Alvarez will teach math and science, and Ms. Travis will teach reading, English Language Arts and social studies. On the opposite side you will find our daily schedule for the school year and our color coding system for behavior. We are looking forward to a fun and educational time with your child!

    Communication & Class Dojo   (salvarez@scuc.txed.net  &  ltravis@scuc.txed.net)

One of the best ways to communicate with us will be through your child’s binder; it will come home with your child daily. The binder will contain a behavior calendar that will chart their day. It will include a planner and other reference materials that are to remain in binder throughout the school year. Please sign the calendar at the end of every week. In addition, this is where your child will keep school news, homework and teacher or parent notes. Also, we will continue to use Class Dojo as a campus-wide communication tool and we have included an invite inside your child’s binder. Please set up ASAP. Thank You!

    Water, Snack and Birthday Treats

Your child may bring a bottle of clear unflavored water to drink in class. We are the first grade to go to lunch this year @ 10:50 a.m., so we will not have snack in the classroom as in previous years. However, this may change if we see a need to have a working snack in the latter part of the day. If this happens, you will be notified through class dojo and the snack must follow our SCUC approved guidelines. The approved snack list and allergy pamphlet is in your child’s binder. Please be aware that only foods that do not leave a residue on fingers will be allowed (i.e., no Cheetos, Taki’s etc). For your child’s birthday, you may send or bring store bought treats to share for the class. We will celebrate at the end of the day.

    Homework

Incomplete class assignments will be sent home for homework. Your child will have a reading log and will set their own personal goal for reading for each 3 week period. Once they have completed their individualized goal they will complete a writing assignment on a book of their choosing. A separate letter and reading log with more detailed instructions will come home by the end of the week.

    Hours

Starting this year, ALL teachers will be in their classrooms ready to go @ 7:45 a.m. Classroom instruction will begin promptly at 8:10 a.m. Please have your child at school each morning by 8:00 a.m.. The end of our day will be at 3:15. Our day is jammed with learning and activities, EVERY MINUTE IS PRECIOUS! Please minimize the time your child is out of school, arrange special family events during holidays. Your child should be in school and on time, unless he or she has a fever, throwing up or has diarrhea.

We love to teach and truly care about our students. We will do our very best to help your child succeed! Please help us by looking in your child’s binder each night. This will take just a moment of your time, but it means a WHOLE LOT to your child, it shows that you care about him or her and how their day went.

Sincerely, Ms. Alvarez and Ms. Travis
