    Required Health Screenings




    Screening programs are conducted in accordance with State Law and Texas Education Agency recommendations.  Parents are contacted and a refferal is sent should the school nurse note a problem.
    • Vision and Hearing screenings are required for Pre-K, Kinder, 1st and 3rd grades annually, as well as new students to Texas and referrals for special education.
    • Ancanthosis nigricans (ANTES)-  Ancanthosis nigricans, a hyperkeratinization of the skin, is a cutaneous marker associated with systemic disorders such as hyperinsulinemia and insulin-resistance and may serve as an indicator for Type 2 diabetes.  This condition is easily evaluated by means of a visual examination of the nampe and sides of the neck.  This screening is held annually for students in 1st and 3rd grades.
