About Mrs. Higgins
Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Devon Higgins
8th Grade ELA / Honors ELA
My name is Mrs. Devon Higgins, and the 2020-2021 school year marks my seventeenth year of teaching; it's hard to believe I'm old enough to have been teaching for that long, but it's the truth! I may have had the privilege of teaching a relative or friend of yours; if it was early in my career, however, they may have known me as "Ms. Salt" (my maiden name). For all sixteen years of my career I have been fortunate enough to instruct students in English Language Arts, and all sixteen years have been spent on the Dobie Junior High School campus. I suppose one might classify me as knowledgeable, though a guru I am not; there is much to learn about our ever-changing profession. I chose to teach ELA because I am passionate about humanity, and I love a good story! Good literature, in my opinion, allows you to experience other perspectives in a way that helps you make better sense of the world around you.
Beyond teaching students at Dobie, I also have a family at home. My husband, Mike, recruits for hospital leadership positions, and is truly my partner in crime! (Not real crime, mind you, I teach for goodness sakes!) He and I somehow manage to juggle the craziness of two boys, Hudson and Emmet. Hudson, the eldest, begins kindergarten this year and is looking forward to learning how to do "bike tricks" in his spare time. Emmet, almost 4 now, loves following his brother and is one of the most fearless kids I know. We have our hands full, to say the least.
The 2020-2021 school year promises to be an interesting one, to say the least. We all have fears and challenges to face, but making the year a great one is on our shoulders. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we will fight through it together. I look forward to working with you this year!
