"Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or  algorithms: it is about understanding."  - William Paul Thurston

I was born in San Antonio, but have lived in Tennessee for most of my life (I went to kindergarten in Tennessee). I attended college there and have a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Since then, I have taught kindergarten, second grade, sixth grade, and fifth grade. This will be my 11th year teaching and my 6th year at Wilder! I am absolutely PASSIONATE about teaching math, and each year I grow a little bit more as a teacher.

I currently live in Live Oak with my dog, Rio! I enjoy coffee, traveling the world, karaoke, video gaming, coloring, telling jokes, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

As a young child, I LOVED math. I understood it quicky and it was easy for me. As I got older and math got "harder", I started to struggle a bit more. I still GOT it, but it felt like it took me longer than the others around me. I had friends tutor me after class to help me catch up. It was this struggle that led me to disliking math - I no longer WANTED to be successful in math. I just wanted to avoid it.

When I started teaching and learning about the foundations of math, I relearned the foundations of math in a much more flexibe way, with multiple paths being options to a solution. This reignited my love of math and has made me, all around, a better mathematician!

I am absolutely passionate about teaching math because I understand what it feels like to struggle, and through my own personal struggle, I learned how to try and use multiple strategies to help me succeed.

It's not about being a human calculator. It's about becoming a mathematical thinker.
