Ms. Julia Torres

Welcome Back Wilder Chaparrals to the 20-21 School Year!

This is my twelfth year teaching at Wilder and providing support to students with individualized needs. I am excited to be back in the classroom teaching 5th graders in the 2nd period Basic ELA class with System 44 Phonics and co-teaching 6th graders in Mrs. Birdwell's ELA class 1st and 3rd periods.

This is my 14th year with SCUC ISD. I am proud to have worked as a special education paraprofessional and special education teacher at Clemens HS, Steele HS, and Dobie JH, before joining Wilder Intermediate.

We never stop learning, so I plan to head back to the classroom this year to work on an Educational Diagnostician certification via online classes from Lamar University. In 2013 I completed my studies toward a Master of Science in Education - Inclusion concentration through the University of New England. I previously attended Syracuse University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Advertising. I thoroughly enjoyed working at the SU Office of Disability Services for two and a half years as the part-time receptionist and assisting students with accommodations such as note taking, tutoring, transcription, and test proctoring services. I ultimately returned to Special Education as my true passion and calling in 2007 and hold Texas teaching certifications in Grades EC-12 Special Education and Grades 4-8 Generalist. I also recently added a supplemental certificate for English as a Second Language to better support our English Language Learners in Special Education.
