"Education is the single most powerful means to improve the quality of life. It is the single most powerful weapon against poverty and intolerance. Education builds a culture of peace. It empowers beings both young and adult to be effective in their chosen sphere of activity. Education in its essence opens doors to both personal and social development".

Mr. James Barber

Hello and welcome to my Web Page. My name is James Barber and I am teaching AP World History, Dual Credit Economics, and Honors World Geography for the 2020-2021 school year.  I have been teaching in SCUCISD for sixteen years and have taught the AP World History course for seven. During this time I've had the opportunity to teach Pre-Ap World Geography, World History, Government, and Economics. This has provided me a deep understanding of our vertical alignment and how to provide students the best possible eduction in their grade level and prepare them for their future coursework. My teaching has been recognized at SCUCISD and I was awarded Teacher of the Year in both 2007 and 2010. In December 2010 I was honored by Kens 5 with the Excel Golden Apple Award recognizing excellence in education and I was awarded the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence Medal in for teaching in 2013.

I am very proud of our Advanced Placement, Honors, and Dual Credit programs at Samuel Clemens and am looking forward to helping our students reach new levels of understanding and strectch their abilities.  The rigorous and advanced curriculum provides students an excpetional opporutnity to prepare for college and challenging careers beyond.
