Mrs. Aimee Gonzales
I grew up in El Paso, and moved to San Antonio for college. I graduated from UTSA and have been teaching in the San Antonio area for 19 years with Special Needs students. My family includes my Husband, 17 year old daughter, 14 year old son, and a spoiled Dachshund. I love reading, scary movies, Snoopy, and dark chocolate!
We are one of the four ALE classes at Clemens and work with 9th and 10th graders towards further independence and job skills. Our class has 2 Paraprofessionals who help our students both in our room, and in other classes. My main focus with our students is a combination of: Academic efforts, Age appropriate social skills, and Self-care skills focused on increased independence for the future.
Classroom Expectations
-
My main focus with our students is a combination of: Academic efforts, Age appropriate social skills, and Self-care skills focused on increased independence for the future. class work is based on a modified version of what other high schoolers are working on. Students will participate in a combination of hands-on group or technology activities, guided note taking with discussion, small group reading / written activities. Students will occasionally have homework, or incomplete classwork to complete at home. For tests in our class, “studying” at home can be as simple as your student reading with or to you and talking about the text or notes.
Our students are also expected to transition between classes, arriving on time (with varied levels of support). Those who travel to electives or other classes independently are encourages to ask teachers questions in class and meet new friends.
All of our learning in and out of the classroom in tied into the goal of obtaining employment at whatever level our students are capable of. All of our students are capable of some level of independence !
