Mr. Eric Contreras

My name is Eric Contreras. I am a native of San Antonio. I am a graduate of Mac Arthur High School. There I was a part of the choir family. It was the influence of my High School Choir Director, Jo Schurlock- Dillard, which inspired me to pursue a degree and a life in music. I took my dreams and Tenor voice to Stephen F. Austin State University to study voice with Dr. Richard Berry. There I learned the true understanding of music. I performed in six operas at S.F.A. I held roles such as Pish Tush in The Mikado and Lipo in the opera Street Scenes. I was also the Tenor soloist for Handel’s Messiah. I obtained my BM from S.F.A. After graduation I moved back to San Antonio. I have been a private voice teacher or over 12 years. I attended The University of Texas At San Antonio and studied voice under Dr. Diana Allan and choral conducting under Dr. John Salatien. I obtained my music education degree from U.T.S.A. I was a choir teacher at Kitty Hawk Middle School for four years and then at Harris Middle School for the past 7 years. I am now starting my 3rd year here as the Dobie and Steele. I do still sing around town. I am a member of the San Antonio Chamber Choir, San Antonio’s elite Men’s Chorus called IlluMen, and San Antonio Opera. I also sing at St. Anthony de Padua, and The Army Resident Center. I am blessed with a beautiful wife, an 11 year old boy Jacob, 14 year old neice and our 3 year old tenor Asher.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my gift and love of music with you and your children.
