M.A, English with thesis B.A. English and Art Certifications: English Language Arts and Reading 7-12 English as a Second Language

Mrs. April Phillips

I am excited about continuing the school year with my students and being a part of Knight Nation!  I have spent my professional life teaching the introductory writing and reading courses in college but have always wanted to return to the secondary level to teach high school--I couldn't love my students more, everything that they are and everything that they are becoming! :)

I was fortunate to live overseas with my husband while he was working with our DoD. I believe my experiences living in Germany allowed me to not only appreciate the US but also what other cultures have to teach us.  I am certified to teach English Language Arts & Reading 7-12 and ESL.

I currently teach Dual Credit juniors and on-level sophomores. I appreciate the milestones and stories they share with me.

I also serve as the Dual Credit Coordinator at Steele, a position I am humbled to have. If you or your child has any questions regarding our program whereby he/she can earn free college credit, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • We will be using the Learning Management System called Canvas, exclusively once we begin the semester. Please make sure that you have your correct Banner ID and password from Northeast Lakeview College. The second week of school, I will demonstrate how to access the English 1301 course that includes the syllabus, gradebook, quizzes, readings, and modules. Please get that ID and password before school begins.

Students use various applications to work and turn in work in this class. Please download and access different applications in class the first week of school.

As the district transitions from Remind, please use email to communicate with me. As your student is enrolled in an advanced course, we expect that they will have access to Ascender and be an advocate for their own progress and success in the course. Please encourage them to reach out to me regarding any issue or concerns first.
