    Meet the School Counselor

Hello! My name is Jennifer Sherman, and I am the School Counselor at Rose Garden Elementary. Go Owls! I am so happy to be a part of the  RGES team!

    A little about me...

I have earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of the Incarnate Word, and a M.Ed. in School Counseling from Lamar University. I am certified as an EC-4 generalist and ESL teacher, and am also certified as an EC-12 School Counselor. I was an elementary school teacher for 16 years prior to becoming a Professional School Counselor. This will be my 4th year as an Elementary School Counselor, and my 2nd year here at Rose Garden Elementary.

My primary role is to help ALL students reach their full potential by providing a comprehensive school counseling program that meets their academic, social/emotional, and career development needs. I will be conducting monthly classroom guidance lessons, and am available to meet with students individually and in small groups as needed.

School counseling is not a clinical model, so I cannot diagnose or provide long-term therapy. I am able to provide temporary/short-term counseling support to help students overcome acute issues that have an impact on school performance. In cases where more intensive, ongoing therapy would be beneficial, I would be happy to provide a list of outside agencies and licensed mental health counselors in the area.

As a counselor, I support all students at Rose Garden Elementary. Confidentiality is respected, unless there is a concern that a student is a danger to themselves or others, or if someone is hurting them. If you would like to request that I meet with your child for a specific concern, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am here to help!

I look forward to a FANTASTIC 22-23 school year!
