Amanda Gonzales named interim principal at Watts ES

Amanda Gonzales will serve as the interim principal at Watts Elementary School, beginning January 3, 2022. Gonzales has served as the school’s assistant principal the past two years, and will assume the leadership role when current principal Deanna Jackson assumes her new duties as Director of Communications & Community Engagement.

She began her career in education at SAISD, and later moved to SCUC ISD when she was hired as head soccer coach and special education teacher at Byron P. Steele High School. Her administrative career was launched at Samuel Clemens High School, where she served as assistant principal through 2019 before moving on to Watts ES.

Mrs. Gonzales earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of the Incarnate Word and later attained her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.

Her husband, Orlando, is a coach and special education teacher at Clemens HS. They have two children, Aaron and Brianna..Amanda Gonzales
