New Vaping Law - Effective September 1, 2023

As part of the Texas 88th Legislative Session, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 114 into law in June. This new law states that any student using or in possession of a vape pen, e-cigarette, cartridges, or oils will result in a Student Code of Conduct violation.
As a result, the student will be removed from class and sent to a disciplinary alternative education program DAEP campus.
To be clear, SCUC ISD has very little disciplinary discretion here. This is state law, and it officially goes into effect on September 1, 2023.
Parents and guardians, please partner with us to ensure your child understands the consequences of vaping or being in possession of these items, and the consequences for even holding it for someone else. Not only is vaping illegal, but it also comes with harmful health risks and will now result in a major disruption to your child’s education.
Please note that vape detectors have been installed at Clemens and Byron Steele high schools to assist with prevention.
