Sons of American Revolution honor Steele student, teacher
Congratulations to Nick Hargett and Becky Williams, student and teacher at Byron P. Steele High School, respectively, for honors they attained February 25th from the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) local chapter for their outstanding work. Hargett, a tenth-grade student, captured the organization’s annual essay contest, earning him a certificate, a medal, an outstanding citizenship pin, and $500. Hargett’s essay will be a finalist in the SAR state competition in March. Three members of SAR were attired in Revolutionary Era garb, two of them as Minutemen. Hargett is the son of Ms. Michelle Hargett, AP English IV and World History teacher at Steele.
Meanwhile, Becky Williams was awarded the SAR chapter and State of Texas American History Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Williams received a certificate and $500 check from the group. She will compete for the SAR National Teacher of the Year Award this summer.
