Rose Garden ES chess whizzes

Two Rose Garden Elementary School fourth-graders emerged victorious in the Team Division at a chess tournament in New Braunfels against teams comprised mostly of sixth grade students. Trent Boissoneault and Dawson Szanto represented their campus at the Complete Chess facility on June 11th. The two later presented the First Place trophy to Sarah Reed, school principal. Szanto also took second place overall in the individual portion of the tournament.

Both are members of the Chess Club at Rose Garden ES, and the duo will represent the Owls at the Houston Chess Festival in July.  The Chess Club is facilitated by Carrie Olivar, Community in Schools representative at Rose Garden, and coached by Duanne Solley, a Kiwanis Club member who resides in the community.
