The announcement at the National Survey Award Winners during its annual gathering in Dallas, Texas on November 17th. Dr. Karla Burkholder, Director of Technology for SCUC ISD, was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the district.

SCUC ISD was the highest-scoring district in the survey for the character of their digital transition from being student-centric and directed towards workflow-enabled personalization. Last year, they required writing portfolios for the first time across the district. This allowed students as well as teachers to monitor writing improvement over time. Establishing the portfolios was a huge achievement and showed writing score improvement.

Amazingly, Schertz has developed an entire framework with one of the components being a Learner-Centered Environment. What they are most proud of is their Leaders of Innovative Teaching (LIT) Academy.  Its purpose is to build teacher capacity for effective technology integration to enable them in turn to lead their campus colleagues. The district saw intended results the first year with teacher participants who were initially leery of technology but are now bravely leading their teams and presenting their learning at conferences.
