SCUC ISD student-athletes play in SA All-Star Game

Six SCUC ISD student-athletes took part in the 44th annual San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game on January 8th in the Alamodome. The contest showcases the top local high school football players in the greater San Antonio-area and was televised locally by CW 35 and broadcast on ESPN radio.

Tevon Cortez, defensive back; Josh Fahrner, linebacker; and Israel Ortiz, offensive tackle; all of Byron P. Steele High School, played for Team Gold. Team Black prevailed in the defensive struggle, 18-9.

Meanwhile, Miles Curry, cornerback; Noah Villegas, punter/kicker; and Sebastian Garcia, defensive tackle, all of Samuel Clemens High School, played for Team Black. A fourth member of the Buffaloes, Chris Holt, offensive lineman, was unable to participate.

Players are nominated by their high school coaches and chosen by a selection committee featuring broadcasters, journalists and former coaches. In addition to physical skills, players who are All-Stars reflect perseverance, character and inner strength.
