Month of the Military Chiild observances
The cities of Schertz and Universal City observed Month of the Military Child, by reading proclamations at their schedule city council meetings on April 2. SCUC ISD students with family members in the military took part in the events. As part of the observance, they posed for photographs with Michael Carpenter and John Williams, mayors of the cities of Schertz and Universal City, respectively.
Similar observances are scheduled with the City of Cibolo during its April 9th council meeting, and the City of Selma council meeting on April 11th.
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child; Sponsored by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), it a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experience of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas.
The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District received a five year/$1.5 million dollar grant from (DODEA) to support our military connected students in grades 7-12. Its outlined goals include (1) increasing the level of social and emotional supports for military dependent students at Dobie and Ray D. Corbett Junior High Schools and (2) increase the level of social and emotional supports for military dependent students at Byron P. Steele and Samuel Clemens High Schools. The goals will be achieved through establishing peer-to-peer support programs and the provision of two full-time military transition consultants based in the schools.
Priority 1 –All Graduates will be College and/or Career and/or Military Ready.
